ONEONTA, N.Y. -- With the fall season in full swing, Oneonta athletics continues to compete with field hockey, women's tennis and women's soccer hosting events, while men's soccer, men's tennis, and volleyball are on the road for the week of September 21-28. This is the last week of non-conference play for most teams like men's and women's soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Women's tennis is in full swing with SUNYAC play, while men's tennis is getting in on the action this week to start their fall campaign. Both cross-country teams get the week off before returning to competition.

Men's Soccer
The SUNY Oneonta Men's Soccer team will be kicking off the week traveling to Skidmore for a 6 pm match on Tuesday, September 22. The Red Dragons are coming off a 2-0 week that saw two 1-0 wins over Hartwick and RPI. Skidmore will enter the game with a 2-2-2 record with their most recent result being a 3-2 victory over Brandeis University. This will be the 6th meeting between the two teams. Oneonta has the edge with a 3-0-2 record. Their match last season ended in a 1-1 tie.

On Saturday, September 26, the Red Dragons will be traveling to Rutgers-Newark to play a 1:00 pm match. The Scarlet Raiders are currently 3-0-3. The series between these two teams is all tied up at 1-1-0, with the last match ending in a 2-1 victory for the Red Dragons in 2019.

Players to Watch – Senior Imari Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston) netted his fifth goal of the season against Hartwick College this past week. Junior Nico Loaiza (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick versus RPI.

Field Hockey
The SUNY Oneonta Field Hockey team will play host to Misericordia on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:00 pm on All College Field. The Red Dragons bring a 2-3 record to the match after splitting their games last week with a tremendous win over Elmira and a tight loss to Brockport. Misericordia is currently sitting at 2-3 overall. The Red Dragons own the series against the Cougars 4-2 with the last match ending in a double overtime loss in 2025.

Over the weekend, Oneonta will travel to Kings College to play the first game against the Monarchs since 1998. Kings has recorded 5 straight losses and bring a 1-5 record with them. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at 5:00 pm. 

Players to Watch – Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) had four goals and three assists against Elmira last week. She has accumulated seven goals on the season. Seven other players have one goal a piece. In goal, freshman Eva Klessel (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) yielded only one goal last week.

Women's Tennis
The Women's Tennis team will be hosting two SUNYAC matches this weekend with the first coming on Friday, Sept 25 versus SUNY Fredonia at 4:00 pm. The Red Dragons are 6-0 on the season coming off of a SUNYAC weekend sweep of Delhi and Cortland. Fredonia is currently 2-4 with their most recent match ending in a loss versus Plattsburgh. Oneonta is 13-1 against the Blue Devils winning last fall 6-1.

Plattsburgh is next up on the Red Dragon's schedule. The Cardinals are currently 6-1. Oneonta owns the series over Plattsburgh 23-3, although the Cardinals won the last meeting in 2025 5-2. This rematch is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at 1:00pm. Both matches will be played at the Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.

Players to Watch –
Senior Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) is 5-1 in the top spot, and junior Annika Cripe (Islip, N.Y./Islip) is undefeated at 4-0 in singles. Junior Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) comes in with four singles wins as well.

Volleyball
After a busy first few weeks of the season the SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team will finally have a bit of a reprieve with only one match this week. The Red Dragons will travel to Hartwick College on Friday, September 25, at 7:00 pm. The Red Dragons are coming off a 0-3 weekend against some very tough competition at Stevens University. Oneonta is 3-10 overall, while Hartwick College is 5-5 on the season. The Red Dragons own the series against the Hawks at 39-9.

Players to Watch –
Junior Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) leads the team in kills and blocks, while senior Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) is second on the team in blocks and third in kills. Sophomore Corynna Manjos (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) is second in kills and senior Lillian Slattery (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) leads the team in digs.

Women's Soccer
The SUNY Oneonta Women's Soccer team will be hosting Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, September 26, at 1:00 pm on Red Dragon Field. The Red Dragons will be honoring their seniors for Senior Day before the match and throughout the day on Saturday. Oneonta is 2-3-1 after splitting their games last weekend with a 3-1 decision at Brockport and a 1-0 win over Union. The Warriors are 5-1 on the season coming off a 4-0 win over VTSU Castleton. The series between the teams is all tied up at 1-1-1. The pair met last in 2017, where the game ended in a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of play.

Players to Watch –
Senior Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) scored both goals for the Red Dragons last week and shares for the lead in goals scored with sophomore Bella Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla).

Men's Tennis
The SUNY Oneonta Men's Tennis team will be getting their season underway this weekend as they send representatives to participate in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships in Saratoga Springs, NY, hosted by Skidmore College. The event is slated to begin Friday, September 25, and last through the weekend.
