ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Coming out of Labor Day weekend and the kickoff to the 2026-27 season, the fall teams continue competition with women's tennis and volleyball hosting events, while men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's soccer hit the road.
Women's Tennis
The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis team is hosting Hartwick in the Battle of the Hills on Tuesday, September 8, at 3 pm at Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts. The Red Dragons own the series record, 19-9, however the Hawks have secured the past four matches.
Oneonta heads into the week 2-0 after they shut out Utica, 7-0, then they came away with a tough 4-3 road victory at Alfred. On the other side of the court, Hartwick enters the matchup 0-2 following their opening weekend. The Hawks fell to St. John Fisher 5-2, then they dropped to Baruch College, 5-2, the following dat.
Field Hockey
The SUNY Oneonta Field Hockey team will also be facing Hartwick this week for the Battle of the Hills. The game is scheduled for 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 9 at Hartwick College's Wright Stadium. The Red Dragons posted a 1-1 record last week with a 3-0 win over Utica and a 0-2 set back against St. John Fisher. Hartwick is bringing a 0-1 record after losing 4-7 to RPI in a high scoring match. The two teams met last fall with Oneonta coming out on top 3-2. The series for the Hawks and Red Dragons is a tight one with Oneonta having the edge at 29-28-4.
Volleyball
The Red Dragons Volleyball team is back at it with another busy week. Oneonta posted a 1-4 record this past week with its lone win coming against Utica University. That win was also the 100th win for head coach Ashley Coyle.
On Wednesday, the Red Dragons will host Marywood University at 6:00pm in the Dewar Arena. Marywood is off to a strong start this season at 5-0. The Pacers lead the series between the two teams 2-1, including a win last fall.
Oneonta will be participating in the Union/Russell Sage Crosstown Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Red Dragons will face Russell Sage in Albany at 5:00pm on Friday. The Gators are 2-1 so far this season. Oneonta leads the series against Sage 23-5 with the last win coming last fall. Saturday will see a doubleheader for the Red Dragons. Oneonta will face Alfred State at 1:00pm and Union at 3:00pm at Union College. The Pioneers are 3-2 on the season while the Garnet Chargers are undefeated at 3-0.
Men's Soccer
The SUNY Oneonta Men's Soccer team is off to a great start to the 2026 campaign. The Red Dragons bring a 3-0 record and Mayor's Cup title with them into week two of the season. They have outscored their opponents 13-2 thus far.
This week the Red Dragons will face St. Lawrence University at noon on Saturday in Canton, NY. The Saints are 2-0 after the first week of the season and have yet to yield a goal. They bring with them a pair of 2-0 wins over Plattsburgh and Geneseo. Oneonta owns the series at 7-2-1 with the last meeting between these two teams ending in a 1-1 tie in 2024.
Women's Soccer
SUNY Oneonta Women's Soccer will be traveling to Saratoga Springs, NY to compete against Skidmore College at Wachenheim Field at Noon on Saturday, September 12. The Red Dragons posted a 1-1-1 week and a second-place finish in the Mayor's Cup. Skidmore finished their last week 0-1-1 with their loss coming against #13 Swathmore. Skidmore has the edge in the series at 5-7-1, but Oneonta won the last meeting last year 1-0.
Cross Country
Both Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will be traveling to Clinton, NY to participate in the Hamilton Short Course Invitational on Saturday, Sept 12 at 10:00am. The men's team is coming off a first place finish out of 6 team in the Oneonta Airfield Invitational while the women's team finished in second place out of 7 teams.
