Men's Track & Field open outdoor season at Hamilton

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field team opened its 2022 outdoor season yesterday at the Hamilton Continental Invitational.  The event was non-scoring but did produce many personal best marks to start the season.
 
The Inside Story
The busiest Red Dragon was sophomore Richard Mangogna (Kings Park/Kings Park) who competed in four individual events posting personal best marks in two of them.  His top place-finish came in the pole vault where he cleared 4.20 meters (13'-9 ¼") to finish second in the event.  He then placed fourth in the 110-meter-high hurdles crossing in a personal best time of 17.16 seconds.  He was eighth in the long jump (6.04 meters) and 11th in the javelin recording a personal best mark of 34.30 meters (112'-6").
 
Oneonta had a pair of event winners, as sophomore Alexander Mavros and freshman Jake McGowan (Liverpool/Liverpool) took first place in the 110 hurdles and 3K steeplechase respectively.  Mavros posted a personal best time of 16.53 seconds while McGowan recorded a time of 11:22.96 in his first collegiate race.
 
On the track, sophomore Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) posted a pair of personal best performances in the 400 and 1500-meter events.  He finished fifth in the 1500 with a time of 4:13.01 while finishing 10th in the 400 in a time of 54.37 seconds.
 
In the 5K sophomores Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and John Balk, Jr. (Suffern/Suffern) posted top-10 finishes with personal best times.  McClain was third overall (15:23.81) and Balk, Jr. was 10th (15:51.70).
 
Junior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) competed in three events for the Red Dragons and came away with a couple of personal best marks.  His best finish was third in the 100 meters crossing with a new personal best time of 11.31 seconds.  He finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.86 seconds) and was ninth in the long jump posting a personal best mark of 6.03 meters (19'-9 ½").
 
The throwers came away with a few personal best performances yesterday.  Leading the way was junior Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) who placed second in the hammer throw with a new PR of 47.95 meters (157'-3").  Senior Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) recorded a personal best performance of 35.83 meters (117-6") to finish ninth in the discus.  Briscoe was also 10th in the hammer throw (39.29 meters).
 
What's Next
The men will travel to Cortland next Saturday to participate in the Red Dragon Open beginning at 11am.
