Drop to 0-3 on the season

Ithaca, NY - The men's tennis team took their third loss in a row this time from Ithaca College in what has been a very tough start to the season playing high division III competition.

In the doubles the number one duo of junior Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) and senior Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) lost only by one break of serve in a very close match up 8-5.  Numbers two and three doubles teams also were setback putting the Red Dragon men in a 3-0 hole going into singles play.

The men did not go quietly and kept Ithaca on the court for a long time.  The number one singles player August Lepique had a slow start and lost the first set 6-1 and then actually went ahead 4-1 in the second set before dropping the next five-games on route to 6-1, 6-4 loss in a match of long intense rallies.  In the third position Smith also was up a break in the match and eventually the first set went into a tiebreaker and Smith took a tough loss 7-6 and 6-2.  In the fifth and sixth position respectively freshman Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) perhaps played in best match of the young season losing the contest with just two service breaks 6-3, 6-4.  The same occurred for sophomore Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) bowing out 6-3, 6-4.

The Red Dragon men now have 13-days to lick their wounds and get ready to play St. John Fisher on Friday, March 18th at 4 PM at the Mendon Racquet Club in Rochester, NY.
