The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team couldn't hold a 5-1 lead falling to Wentworth Institute of Technology tonight on the road 7-6. The loss drops the Red Dragons to 1-5 overall while the Leopards move to 4-3 overall.

The Inside Story
Oneonta controlled the opening period grabbing a 5-1 lead entering the second quarter. Freshman
Vincent Tirino (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) got things going for Oneonta scoring his first collegiate goal at the 8:54 mark. The Red Dragons ran off three more goals to push its lead to 4-0. Goals were scored by senior
Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), sophomores
Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy) and
Andrew Guinto (Syracuse/West Genesee).

After a goal by Wentworth, Cannon scored again at the buzzer to cap the scoring in the first quarter.

In a relatively quiet second quarter, the hosts scored one goal while holding Oneonta to no goals. The Red Dragons held a 5-2 lead heading to halftime.

Three unanswered goals by Wentworth in the third quarter tied the game at five apiece entering the final quarter. In the final quarter, Cannon scored his third of the game to put Oneonta ahead 6-5. The Leopards took advantage of two extra-man situations to score a pair of goals including the eventual game-winner with just under five minutes remaining.

Oneonta outshot Wentworth 41-25 while collecting 35 ground balls. Faceoffs were even at eight apiece.

Jordan Berson (Old Bethpage/JFK) got his first start of the season in goal for Oneonta and took the loss recording a pair of saves.

Oneonta will be at Western Connecticut State University next Wednesday night, Mar. 23 in a game that was rescheduled from Mar. 12.
