The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field squad completed its two-day competition at the Utica College Pioneer Invitational today with the conclusion of the Heptathlon. The Red Dragons finished with 83 points to capture fourth place overall in the team standings.

The Inside Story
Highlighting the competition for Oneonta was the performance of sophomore multi-event athletes
Richard Mangogna (Kings Park/Kings Park) and
Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale/Farmingdale). Competing for the first time in the event, the duo finished 1-2 respectively while posting the second and third best scores in program history.

Mangogna won the event with 4,402 points nearly setting a program record in his initial attempt indoors. Along the way, he set personal best marks in five of the seven events that comprise the Heptathlon competition. His PRs came in the 60-meter dash (7.68), 60-meter hurdles (9.29), 1000-meter run (2:57.94), high jump (1.70m) and shot put (10.99m).

Kelly collected a total of 4,143 points while setting personal best marks in six of the seven events. His PRs were posted in the 60 (7.72), 1000 (3:04.89), 60 hurdles (9.53), high jump (1.88m), pole vault (3.60m) and shot put (10.44m).

On the track, the middle distance and distance athletes scored well while setting personal best times in the process.

In the mile,
Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) and
Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) finished fourth and fifth respectively with personal best times of 4:24.58 and 4:29.15.

Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and
John Balk, Jr. (Suffern/Suffern) posted PRs in the 3K finishing third and eighth respectively with times of 8:58.58 and 9:13.74.

Jarski and Bierman came back later to team with classmates
Clayton Davis (Newport/West Canada Valley) and
Shane Marchese (Washingtonville/Washingtonville) to place fifth in the DMR with a time of 11:10.23.

Sophomore
Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) finished third in the 60 hurdles crossing in a time of 9.21 seconds.

In the jumps, sophomores
Michael Prata (Baldwin/Baldwin) and
Alec Weiss (Selden/Newfield) scored in the triple jump and long jump respectively. Prata was fourth overall with a personal best distance of 11.67 meters (38'-3 ½"). Weiss placed seventh with a mark of 5.90 meters (19'-4 ¼").

The throwers had a solid day placing three athletes in the top-8 in the weight throw while sophomore
Vincent Zheng (Nanuet/Nanuet) recorded a personal best mark of 13.24 meters (43'-5 ¼") in placing third in the shot put. Seniors
Norberto Cervantes (Williamson/Williamson) (2
nd),
D'Shaun Ricketts (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) (8
th) and junior
Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) (7
th) were three athletes that scored in the weight throw.

Sophomore
Michael Carey (Washingtonville/Washingtonville) and senior
William Ford (Brewster/Brewster) rounded out the scoring individuals for Oneonta in the meet placing fourth and sixth respectively in the pole vault.

The men will compete next weekend at RIT and Boston University.
