The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field team collected 52 points in finishing fourth at the 2022 SUNYAC championship hosted by Brockport. The overall team champion was Geneseo.

The Inside Story
The top performer for Oneonta at this year's championship was sophomore
Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale/Farmingdale) who scored a total of 16 points after placing second in the Heptathlon and High Jump. Kelly posted a career-best score of 4,313 points in the Heptathlon recording personal best performances in five of the seven events. Kelly's PRs came in the 60-meter dash (7.55 seconds), long jump (6.19m), high jump (1.92m), pole vault (3.60m) and the 1,000-meter run (3:02.60). In placing second in the high jump, Kelly cleared 1.90 meters (6'- 2 ¾").

Senior
Norberto Cervantes (Williamson/Williamson) also posted a second place finish for the Red Dragons in the weight throw. Cervantes recorded a mark of 16.44 meters (53'-11 ¼").

Six other individuals posted personal best marks in the championship. Sophomore
Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) recorded a pair of PRs in the 3K (8:48.35) and 5k (15:18.31) events finishing eighth in both.

Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) placed third in the 800-meter run turning in a personal best time of 1:55.73.

Eric Nieves (Thornwood/Westlake) finished fifth in the 60-meter dash crossing with a personal best time of 7.20 seconds.

Michael Carey (Washingtonville/Washingtonville) posted a personal best mark of 3.95 meters (12'-11 ½") in finishing sixth in the pole vault. His performance moved him into fifth all-time in the event.

Vincent Zheng (Nanuet/Nanuet) recorded a personal best distance of 13.64 meters (44'-9") to place seventh in the shot put.

The final personal best performance came from freshman
Marco Alteri (Staten Island/Staten Island) in the weight throw with his distance of 13.84 meters (45'-5") where he finished eighth.

The final individual to score points for Oneonta was sophomore
Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) who finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles.

Jarski, Kelly and Cervantes were all medalists for finishing in the top-3 in their individual events. Cervantes and Kelly earned All-Conference Second Team honors while Jarski earned Third Team honors.

What's Next
Oneonta is scheduled to be in action again next weekend at Nazareth for the AARTFC championship meet. Action begins on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
