Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse sinks Privateers

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team generated some offensive punch today while using a stifling defense to hold back the SUNY Maritime Privateers on the road today.  The win for the Red Dragons is its initial victory of the new season and evens them at 1-1 overall.

The Inside Story
The Privateers got on the scoreboard early on a goal by Steve Pinto at 13:29.  Oneonta countered with back-to-back goals one minute apart to take its first lead of the contest.  Junior David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) scored at 9:34 off an assist from Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue).  Junior Owen Vail (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) notched an unassisted goal at 8:33.

After SUNY Maritime tied the score at 7:10, the Red Dragons scored a pair of late goals to grab a 4-2 lead at the end of the opening quarter.  Senior Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored off an assist from Sam Haita (Stephentown/La Salle Institute) while Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) scored unassisted.

After exchanging goals to start the second quarter, Oneonta seized control with a pair of unassisted goals by Cannon and Haita to give Oneonta a 7-3 lead going into halftime.

Oneonta continued its dominance at both ends of the field in the third quarter extending its lead to 12-5 entering the fourth quarter.  Junior Kieran Rowley (Long Beach/Long Beach) led the attack with a pair of goals in the quarter both assisted by Cannon.  Cannon also added a goal as did Gallagher and Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy).

In a relatively quiet final quarter, the two teams each scored a goal for the final of 13-6.  Krieg scored Oneonta's goal off an assist from Ben Konak (South Salem/John Jay).
