Men's track & field compete at Deneault Invitational

SUNYAC championships coming next weekend

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field team is one week out from the SUNYAC championships and, yesterday, competed at the Marc Deneault Invitational hosted by Cornell University.  The Red Dragons posted more than a dozen top-10 finishes overall while recording as many personal best performances.
 
The Inside Story
Junior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) posted the first top-10 finish of the day with his seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash.  In the event, he recorded a personal best time of 7.16 seconds.  Later in the day, Ganley placed sixth in the 200-meter dash crossing with a time of 23.63 seconds.
 
Sophomore Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) posted a pair of top-10 finishes while recording PRs in both events that he competed in.  Jarski's first PR came in the 500-meter run where he placed second with a time of 1:07.14.  He followed later with a PR of 2:44.47 in the 1000-meter run where he finished seventh.
 
A trio of sophomores recorded personal best performances in the event.  Alec Weiss (Selden/Newfield) posted a PR in the 300-meter run (39.55 seconds), Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) recorded a PR in the 400-meter run (57.40 seconds) and Clayton Davis (Newport/West Canada Valley) posted a PR in the 800-meter run (2:05.27).
 
Sophomore John Balk, Jr. (Suffern/Suffern) finished ninth in the 3K crossing with a personal best time of 9:16.41.
 
Senior Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) turned in an eighth-place finish in the weight throw recording a personal best distance of 13.77 meters (45'-2 ¼").  Classmate D'Shaun Ricketts (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) placed tenth in the event with a mark of 13.48 meters (44-2 ¾").
 
Sophomore Vincent Zheng (Nanuet/Nanuet) led a trio of shot putters with a ninth-place finish posting a personal best mark of 13.32 meters (43'-8 ½").  Briscoe also posted a PR in the event at 10.92 meters (35'-10").
 
Multi-event athlete Richard Mangogna (Kings Park/Kings Park) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the pole vault and long jump posting a personal best performance in the latter.  He placed seventh in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.31 meters (14'-1 ¾") while placing eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.21 meters (20'-4 ½").
 
Sophomores Michael Prata (Baldwin/Baldwin) and Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale/Farmingdale) rounded out the list of athletes with top-10 placements.  Prata was sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.17 meters (36'-7 ¾") while Kelly cleared a personal best height of 1.92 meters (6'-3 ½") in placing fourth in the high jump.
 
What's Next
The SUNYAC championship meet begins Friday afternoon at Brockport and will conclude late Saturday afternoon.
