WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team opened their season at the Lycoming Invitational Sunday morning. The event was a round-robin, non-team scoring that was able to get each wrestler to participate in two or three matches. Senior Anthony Romero (Spring Valley/Ramapo), junior Noah Kennedy (Greene/Greene), and freshman Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT) won all three of their matches.  

Romero wrestled in the 133-weight class and started his day off with a 20-5 tech fall victory over Lycoming's Anthony Coukart. He then won a 5-4 decision over Coukart's teammate, Samuel Hanley and closed out with 17-6 major win against York's (PA) Daniel Barra.  

Ryan started his collegiate career strong with three victories wrestling at 184, two of them via pin. After a 3-0 decision victory against Otterbein's Logan Cormell, Ryan pinned Tyler Goodemote from Cortland in 4:10 and York's Devon O'Dell in 55 seconds. 

Kennedy won his three matches in the 197 class. He started off with a 3:18 pin against Nico Williams from Washington and Jefferson. He followed up with a 6-2 decision win against Matthew Bachie before a MFF to win his third match.  

Freshman Nicholas Aliani (Bayshore, NY/West Islip) and senior Jacob Pine (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) picked up a couple victories via pin. Aliani, in the 184 class, won his first fall in 5:33 against Lycoming's Nick Parella. After a tough third round that ended in a 7-4 decision loss, Aliani got back in stride and followed up with a 2:03 pin victory against Elmira's Bryan Stafford. In the heavyweight class, Pine lost his first match in a hard fought 9-4 decision against Lycoming's returning All-American, No. 5 nationally-ranked, Connor Fulmer, where Pine scored two takedowns. After the battle, Pine pinned Cortland's Roman Jellick in 2:46 and Willard McCracken from Washington and Jefferson in 4:42.   

Sophomore Giovanni Russo (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) (125), freshman Aydin DeForest (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) (165) and juniors Kenneth Sauer (Franklin/Franklin) (174) and Peter Sacco (Vestal/Vestal) (133), left with a couple wins. Russo won his two matches via decision, DeForest made his collegiate debut and won two technical falls, 21-2 and 18-2. Sacco won a 23-5 technical fall and a 14-6 majority and Sauer pinned St. John Fisher's Dylan Haubner before beating junior teammate Adonis Morano () in an 8-3 decision. Morano ended the day on a high note with a 21 second pin win over Haubner.
 
Seniors Michael Blando (Massapequa/Massapequa) (141) and Greg Brach (Bellmore/Belmore JFK) (141), junior Diego Orellana (Ossining/Ossining) (285), and sophomore Esdras Ramos () (174) each recorded one pin fall victory. 

The Red Dragons are back in action Sunday for the Electric City Duals in Scranton, PA at 10 am.
