Men's Tennis Battles at ITA Regionals

MADISON, NJ – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team traveled to Drew University to compete in the ITA Division III Northeast Regionals over the weekend.

Sophomore Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) and freshman William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) paired up and had a strong performance in the "B" Draw Doubles Bracket, going 2-0. In their first match, Khair and Schmid routed Pinny Balsam and Johan Herman from Yeshiva University, 6-1. After beating the Maccabees, the Red Dragons battled it out with Lebanon Valley's Jeffrey Bauer and Brendan Byler. In a close match, it was Khair and Schmid who walked out on top, 7-5. Khair later paired up with junior Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) in his last match against Bard's Drew Soleiman and Kai O'Donnell, but Soleiman and O'Donnell got past them, 6-2.

In the "A" Doubles Bracket, seniors Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) teamed up to face Hamilton's Anson Anderson and Lorenzo Gunningham. Dornsife and Spottek fought to the end and forced a tiebreaker but fell short, 7-8 (2-7).

The Red Dragons are back in action on Friday for their first dual match of the season against Baruch College at the US Tennis Center.
