Late Kelly Goal Pushes Oneonta Past Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team recorded a 1-0 win against Fredonia Saturday afternoon behind a late goal from senior Hannah Kelly (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) in the 74th minute. Oneonta bounces back from a loss this past Wednesday and improves to 4-9-1 and 2-6-1 in the SUNYAC. Fredonia falls to 2-9-4 and 0-7-2 in the conference.

Neither side could score in the first half despite 13 total shots between both teams. The Blue Devils struck first in the third minute when Alexis Lindamer shot into the bottom center of the Oneonta goal. In her Oneonta debut, goalkeeper Olivia Forbes (Conesus, NY/Livonia) reached the ball in time to make the save. Kelley gave the Red Dragons their first attempt at 5:46, but the Blue Devils' goalie wrapped the ball up.

Fredonia rattled off three straight shots, with Forbes making two saves and keeping it scoreless. Oneonta's offense picked up later in the half when sophomore Shannon Lowney (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) fired a shot on goal at 31:08 and then launched a high ball a minute later.

During the second half, there were 11 total shots attempted between both teams. First-year Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) came in for Forbes, making her first appearance for the Red Dragons and recording three saves. Then in the 75th minute, Hannah Kelly (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) scored, which held up and secured the Oneonta victory.

In their first-career games, Forbes and Meehan (1-0) both had three saves. Fredonia's Suriani recorded two saves.

Oneonta concludes the regular season when they make the short trip to Hartwick on Tue. Oct. 25 for a 6 p.m. game.
