OSWEGO, N.Y. -Â Junior Kyle Copper (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) led the Oneonta men's swimming and diving team with two first-place finishes in Saturday's dual meet against Oswego. The Red Dragons went on to win 94-92 and totaled five first places.Â
Oneonta opened the day by winning the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:43.75, which was nine seconds faster than second place. Copper then picked up his first win in the 200-freestyle, posting a mark of 1:52.11. First-year David Butler (Port Kent, NY/Ausable Valley Central) placed fourth with a time of 2:07.77.Â
Oswego's Matt Seyse won the 50-freestyle at 23.17, but junior Daniel Oh (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) was close behind with a 23.53 for second place. Junior Eli Cohen (Schoharie, NY/East Lake (Fla)) finished third at 23.68. Junior Ross Caimano (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) swam a 2:15.94 in the 200IM, which was good for second place. Copper earned his second gold in the 100-fly, winning by eight seconds with a 54.79. Sophomore Anthony Genovese (Seaford, NY/St. John the Baptist) made second with a 1:02.15.
Cohen won the 100-freestyle with a time of 51.89, and Oh was third at 52.89. In the 100-backstroke, sophomore James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip) was second overall at 58.26, and sophomore Joseph Campise (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) was third with a 1:05.40. First-year Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) was close behind at 1:05.61 for fourth place.Â
The Red Dragons claimed the top-two spots in the 500-freestyle, with sophomore Mason DeLisio (Kingston, NY/Kingston) winning with a 5:08.19. Sophomore Jonathan Stanzione (East Islip, NY/East Islip) took second and finished at 5:27.82. Caimano placed second in the 100-breaststroke at 1:08.11, and Stanzione was third with a 1:08.57.Â
The Red Dragons 200-freestyle relay went second at 1:31.48.
After a slight break in competition, Oneonta returns on Sat. Nov. 5 to host Brockport at 1 p.m.
