Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Gritzmacher Nets Gamewinner Over Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. - With a scoreless draw looming, senior Joie Tortorice (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) slipped the ball through two Oswego defenders to junior Gianna Gritzmacher (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) at the top of the goal box in the 84th minute. Gritzmacher crossed the shot low into the left post, and the ball bounced back to give the Oneonta women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Oswego.

The Red Dragons move to 3-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers now stand at 7-5-3 and 2-3-3 in the conference.

Both sides set a defensive tone as shots were tied 5-5 by the end of the day. Oneonta drew a pair of corners in the 7th minute but could not register a shot. The Lakers responded with attempts in the 13th minute from Emily Applegate, Luigina Serrao, and Amber McDermott that all sailed wide or high. Junior Jianna Chapman (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) gave the Red Dragons their first opportunity at 17:45, but the ball went high. Chapman then fired on goal at 19:19, and this time, Lakers' goalkeeper Perri Anderson made the save.

The teams only took three shots in the second half as the Oneonta defense held Oswego to one. McDermott shot out top at 81:49 as it looked like a draw would be the conclusion. In the 84th minute, sophomore Kennady Amo (Cape Vincent, NY/Thousand Islands) threw a clean pass from 25-yards out to Tortorice, who broke the Oswego to find Gritzmacher open in the middle to give Oneonta its first SUNYAC win.

Goalie Claire Lepper (Poland, NY/Poland) picked up the win as the Oneonta defense did not allow a single shot on goal in the shutout.

The Red Dragons next play at Cortland on Wed. Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
