CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to league-leading Cortland on Wednesday afternoon. Oneonta struggled to find its offense and fall to 3-9-1 and 1-6-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland moves to 11-1-3 and 7-0-1 in the conference.Â
Cortland scored four first-half goals and limited Oneonta to two shots. The Oneonta defense held until 28:54, when Jaden Galluzzo scored on a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Junior Jianna Chapman (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) responded with a shot on goal, but Kristen Spendal collected the save. Jayden Kelley then netted the following two goals in the 33rd and 37th minutes. Keara Johnson gave Cortland one more goal, scoring at 43:29 off a Julia DeTurris assist.Â
Cortland rattled off three shots in the opening minutes of the second half before adding another score. Katie Cosenza made it 5-0 at 54:12 off a corner kick. Lexi Burker gave Cortland its sixth goal when she netted the goal off her rebound attempt. Senior Joie Tortorice (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) used a header to nearly score at 68:55, but the Cortland goalie made the save.Â
Oneonta concludes SUNYAC play at Fredonia on Sat. Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
