ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team defeated Oswego State 2-1, Saturday afternoon. Senior
Lucas Fecci (Somers, N.Y./Somers) recorded the game-winning goal and tallied an assist as the Red Dragons improved to 9-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers dropped to 4-7-2 in the season and 2-4-1 in the conference. Â
After a scoreless first half, the Red Dragons struck first in the 48th minute off a give and go pass. At midfield, senior
Ian Zingaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) beat out an Oswego defender and got the ball to senior
Ethan Brunell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) who played it to Fecci. Fecci waited and threaded a pass back to Brunell for the score 10 yards out. Â
The Lakers tied the game a minute later off the leg of Kieran Gilroy. Oswego had a corner kick and sent it just in front of the six-yard box to Gilroy. Gilroy could not trap the ball cleanly and the ball bounced away from him towards senior keeper
Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). Hanna attempted to punch the ball out of the area but was simultaneously blocked and viciously kicked by Gilroy and the ball was redirected into the net. Â
Oneonta secured the win in the 60th minute. Crossing midfield, Fecci sent the ball to senior
Malcolm Swett (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) who found freshman
Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) near the left sideline. Mancias Magana had possession near the corner as he centered it in front of the net for a waiting Fecci to score with a header. Â
Hanna finished with a pair of saves while Matt D'Arpino ended with seven for Oswego.
The Red Dragons outshot the Lakers 20-4 but were held to one corner kick while the Lakers had two. Â
Oneonta is back in action Wednesday when they host Red Dragon rival Cortland at 3 p.m.
