Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball upended at Geneseo

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell today to Geneseo 91-68.  The loss for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight and puts them at an even 6-6 overall and 2-3 in SUNYAC play while Geneseo remains undefeated in the conference at 5-0 and 7-4 overall.

"This was a tough weekend for us," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "Losing is no fun, and we will all remember today's feeling.  I am confident we will respond.  Starting with me, we need to look in the mirror and figure out what each of us can do better.  If we do that, this group will be fine."

The Inside Story
As he did last night, junior Michael Ortale Jr. (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem Central) led Oneonta in scoring finishing with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.  Joining him in double figures was junior Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) who returned after a few games away to score 16 points.  The two combined for six, three-pointers in the game.

In the first half, there were 12 lead changes and nine ties, as neither team could create any breathing room.  It wasn't until the final three minutes of the opening half that Geneseo began to create some space scoring the final eight points to grab a 41-34 lead at halftime.  The seven-point cushion was the largest for either squad in the half.

In the opening four minutes of the second half, the Knights pushed its lead to 17 points, as they continued to pull away throughout the remainder of the contest.

Just the Stats
Every offensive category was even in the game except two.  Geneseo held a 14-6 advantage in second chance points while Oneonta outscored the Knights 20-9 on the break.  After shooting 48 percent in the first half, Oneonta finished the game at just over 41 percent.  Geneseo was relatively even in both halves shooting finishing the contest at 52 percent.

What's Next
Oneonta will play host to Fredonia this Thursday beginning at 7:30pm.  The game is the first of five straight home games for the Red Dragons.
