The Inside Story
Junior
Michael Ortale Jr. (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem Central) recorded a double-double for Oneonta scoring a game high 27 points while grabbing 10 boards. Ortale Jr. also made all four three-pointers in the contest for the Red Dragons.
Â
Oneonta scored the first seven points of the game including five by Ortale Jr. Brockport then ran off nine straight to grab the lead before a basket by sophomore
Dylan Craft (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) tied the score for the last time of the game.
Â
The Golden Eagles scored points in bunches while Oneonta kept fighting back for the remainder of the opening half. A late 14-4 burst by the hosts gave them a 40-29 lead at the break.
Â
Trailing 53-39 just five minutes into the second half, Oneonta put together a 14-5 run of its own to cut its deficit to 58-53 with 10 minutes remaining. Ortale Jr. led the charge with eight points including a pair of treys.
Â
Neither team scored for nearly four minutes until an old-fashioned three-point play by David Grady of Brockport broke the skid. That exchange fueled the Golden Eagles, as they continued to pull away outscoring the Red Dragons 24-12 over the final six minutes.
