Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball drops road contest at Brockport

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team made a run midway through the second half, but host Brockport pulled away late to take an 85-65 victory tonight in SUNYAC action.  The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference while Brockport raised its overall record to 9-2 and 4-1 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Junior Michael Ortale Jr. (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem Central) recorded a double-double for Oneonta scoring a game high 27 points while grabbing 10 boards.  Ortale Jr. also made all four three-pointers in the contest for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta scored the first seven points of the game including five by Ortale Jr.  Brockport then ran off nine straight to grab the lead before a basket by sophomore Dylan Craft (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) tied the score for the last time of the game.

The Golden Eagles scored points in bunches while Oneonta kept fighting back for the remainder of the opening half.  A late 14-4 burst by the hosts gave them a 40-29 lead at the break.

Trailing 53-39 just five minutes into the second half, Oneonta put together a 14-5 run of its own to cut its deficit to 58-53 with 10 minutes remaining.  Ortale Jr. led the charge with eight points including a pair of treys.

Neither team scored for nearly four minutes until an old-fashioned three-point play by David Grady of Brockport broke the skid.  That exchange fueled the Golden Eagles, as they continued to pull away outscoring the Red Dragons 24-12 over the final six minutes.

Just the Stats
Brockport placed four players in double figures tonight while connecting on 11 three-point baskets.  Oneonta collected 16 offensive rebounds in the game while recording 13 steals.  The Red Dragons outscored the Golden Eagles in the paint 42-36 while Brockport scored 20 points off turnovers.
