Troy, NY – The RPI Engineers ended the fall season for the SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis Team by the score of 8-1. The Red Dragons end their fall season at a very respectable 7 wins against only 2 losses.
Today's matchup against the highly ranked RPI Engineers was very competitive but the Red Dragon women did not have enough left in the tank to match up today. Doubles was competitive on two courts with the highlight being Sophomores
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) and
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) losing only by a break of serve in the third tier dropping their match 8-5. Back in the second flight seniors
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) were down 6-1 before making a match of the contest and lost respectfully 8-4.
A 3-0 deficit after doubles was a tall order to tackle for Oneonta. Five of the six singles courts contested went all RPI's way. The lone point came in the sixth singles spot as junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) overwhelmed her opponent 6-0, 6-0 saving Oneonta from a shutout. Noteworthy is Macdonald's performance in the fourth singles position as she lost in two very close sets 6-4, 7-5.
The Red Dragons women's tennis team can be proud of their 7-2 mark after their short fall campaign. The offseason begins and the next matchup will have to wait until February 27
th when Oneonta heads down to Ewing, NJ and play The College of NJ.
