A Quick Look
A goal in the 86
th minute by junior
Lucas Fecci (Somers/Somers) turned into the game-winner today, as SUNY Oneonta clipped Geneseo 3-2 in the SUNYAC opener for both squads. The win for the Red Dragons keeps them unbeaten at 5-0-1 while Geneseo falls to 3-3-2.
Â
"What a great game to watch," commented Head Coach
Iain Byrne. "We had spells where we played really well, and we showed heart to bounce back from conceding goals. Their goalkeeper made a few great saves, and it was a real nail-biter till the end."

The Inside Story
The game-winning goal for Fecci came off a corner kick. Classmate
Ethan Brunell (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) served the ball from the right corner all the way across to the back post where Fecci charged to head the ball into the lower left corner of the goal.
Â
Brunell opened the scoring today with his first goal of the season in the 20
th minute. From about 25 yards out in the right flank, Brunell sent a floater into the box hoping that someone would get to it, but the ball kept sailing ending up in the back of the goal over the keeper's outstretched arms. Brunell's goal was the only scoring in the first half of play.
Â
Midway through the second half, the two teams turned up the offense combining for three goals in a seven-minute span.
Â
Geneseo struck first in the 62
nd minute to tie the game at 1-1. On a restart, the ball deflected a couple of times before Adam Astarita got his head on the ball to push it past the Oneonta keeper.
Â
The Red Dragons came right back less than four minutes later to take a 2-1 lead on Fecci's first goal of the match. With the ball out in the right flank, Brunell started the play with a slip pass to senior
Jeremy Pantoni (Goshen/Goshen), who then sent a ball in the air that found the front of the goal. There, Fecci got his foot on it and redirected the ball just inside the right corner of the goal.
Â
The equalizer for the Knights came in the 69
th minute off a corner kick. Liam Mulderig served a ball to right in front of the goal that was sent to the back of the net by Matt Volz.
