Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis team keeps right on rolling chalking up wins 6 &7. Utica and Houghton College were the latest victims of the Red Dragon Express as Oneonta tallied 9-0 shutouts in each contest.
Against Houghton senior
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and sophomore
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) lost only one game on route to an 8-1 win in the first flight. Seniors
Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) and
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) were perfect in turning their opponents back on the second tier recording an 8-0 shutout. Junior
Jessica Harris (Cobleskill/Academy of Holy Names) and senior
Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany) lost only two-games on route to their 8-2 win on the third doubles court. Each one of those players recorded straight set wins in singles not allowing Houghton into the match whatsoever. Carswell, Macdonald, Holtermann, Wilson, Sampson and Harris lost only eleven games between them on singles spots one through six respectfully. Sophomore
Illana Ger (Levittown/MacArthur) played in the exhibition singles position and recorded a victory also 8-2.
The second match of the afternoon verse Utica College had a similar result as the Red Dragons did not take their feet off the gas petal. Senior
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and junior
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) dropped only one-game in securing the number one doubles position 8-1. Sophomores
Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) and
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) won with the identical score dominating 8-1 in the second tier. Seniors
Brianna Harmon (Endicott/Union Endicott) and
Ariel Loucks (Averill Park/Averill Park) were perfect while recording the 8-0 shutout on the third doubles courts. Utica could not make a dent in the 3-0 lead as Fraser, Schutte, Shaw, Karen, Loucks and Harmon all won in the one through six position respectfully. Five games were lost totally in singles between the six Red Dragons Combatants on route to the 9-0 team win.
The Utica shutout clinched a perfect day of tennis as the Red Dragon Women did not lose one court in winning all 18 individual matches contested. That makes Oneonta perfect on the season 7-0.
Two very challenging opponents lie ahead as Oneonta travels to St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, September 28th in a contest that begins at 4 PM. On Wednesday, Oneonta women's tennis has little time to rest as they travel to play national powerhouse RPI on Sept 29
th with that match beginning at 3:30.
