Red Dragon women’s tennis sweeps season series from Plattsburgh with 9-0 shutout

Oneonta shuts out Plattsburgh twice this season

April 26, 2021

Oneonta, NY – Just 1 ½ weeks earlier the SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team handed the SUNY Plattsburgh a 9-0 shutout and today the Red Dragons duplicated the same score sweeping the season series against the Cardinals in very convincing fashion.

The Doubles opened with the number one pair of junior Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and senior Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) dropping their foes 8-1.  The number two tandem of juniors Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) also dominated with an 8-3 victory.  The number three flight saw freshman Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) and junior Ariel Loucks (Averill Park/Averill Park) setting back their opponents 8-2.

A 3-0 lead for the Red Dragons was too big a mountain to climb back for the Cardinals.  The Red Dragons swept all the courts in straight sets.  Fraser easily handled her opponent in the top position 6-1, 6-1.  Lipscomb never let her opponent into the match and double bageled her Cardinal number two rival 6-0, 6-0.  Carswell returned to the lineup in singles today and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win.  Schutte also dominated by taking her number four flight opponent down 6-2, 6-1.  Macdonald in the fifth singles spot was flawless cruising to a double bagel win.  Finally in the sixth position freshman Jayden Carillo played cleanly on route to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.

SUNY Oneonta women's tennis take the court again on Tuesday, April 27th when they host their rivals from Cortland in all important playoff positioning contest.  That match is set to begin at 3 PM on the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
