The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY New Paltz 17-8 Saturday afternoon at Red Dragon Field. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 2-0 on the year while the Hawks slide to 2-2.
Oneonta was led by
Rachel Morris (East Greenbush/Columbia) with a game-high four goals.
Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) tallied six points with a hat-trick and three assists.
Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) chipped in with three goals while
Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and
Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) had two goals apiece.
Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley) added a goal and an assist while
Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial) and
Lauren Sullivan (Pearl River/Pearl River) each had a goal.
Oneonta outshot New Paltz 30-25 for the game, with the hosts earning a 15-12 advantage in draw controls. Oneonta goalie
Jennifer Tumino (Carle Place/Carle Place) made 11 saves for the Red Dragons in net.
Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial) and
Francesca Lawless (Massapequa/Massapequa) combined to force five New Paltz turnovers.
Oneonta returns to action on Monday, April 12
th when they host Cortland at 4:00 PM.
