Women's Lacrosse Foiles Bears

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team returned to action for the first time in 374 days, recording a convincing 22-1 victory over SUNY Potsdam in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Red Dragon Field.

The Inside Story
Eleven different Red Dragons found the back of the net. Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial) put Oneonta on the board just 14 seconds into the game when she scored on a feed from Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber). After the Bears tied the game on a Novaleigh LeGrow goal, Oneonta went on to score 21 unanswered goals. Patalano gave the Red Dragons the lead for good on another pass from Avazis to make it 2-1. Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) followed with her first of a team-best four goals on the day to make it 3-1. Kelly McCloe (Endicott/Union-Endicott) got in on the scoring at the 23:52 mark on an assist from Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley). Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) followed with her first of three goals on the afternoon with a pass from Tessa Hughes (Delmar/Bethlehem Central). Hughes added a goal of her own to make the score 6-1. Junior Rachel Morris (East Greenbush/Columbia) netted her first of three makers on the day with 17:02 remaining in the first half to up the Oneonta lead to 7-1. After Foiles tallied her second of the game, Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) added a goal to make the score 9-1. Freshman Margaret Bryne scored her first collegiate goal with 13:25 remaining in the half on a pass from Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley). After a Lauren Sullivan (Pearl River/Pearl River) goal make it 11-1, freshman Lauren Mancini (Miller Place/Miller Place) tickled the net for the first time in her collegiate career to give the Red Dragons a 12-1 advantage. With 2:49 remaining in the first, Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) became the 11th Red Dragon to score on the day.

Just the Stats
Oneonta outshot Potsdam by a 46-8 margin. The Red Dragons were 11-for-15 on clear attempts while picking up 26 ground balls. The hosts were 18-for-25 on draw controls, including a 12-5 margin in the first half. Oneonta goalie Jennifer Tumino (Carle Place/Carle Place) made four saves in her first collegiate start. The Red Dragons forced ten turnovers on the afternoon with Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) and Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) earning two apiece. Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) gathered a game-high four ground balls while Jenna Dangler (Nyack/Nyack) had three.

What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action on Wednesday, March 31st when they travel to New Paltz for a 4:00pm SUNYAC tilt with the Hawks.
