Volleyball drops weekend pair out west

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team traveled to the western part of the state this weekend and ended up dropping a pair of matches at Fredonia and Buffalo State.  The two losses dropped the Red Dragons to 3-14 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC.
 
The Inside Story
In last night's match at Fredonia, the women were swept (23-25, 14-25, 18-25).
 
Oneonta was led by sophomore Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills/Cornwall) with nine kills to go with a team high 12 digs.  Junior Kayla Rende (Wantagh/Wantagh) recorded 10 assists.
 
In today's match at Buffalo, the Red Dragons were defeated in four sets (18-25, 20-25, 25-23, 29-31).
 
In the epic fourth set, Oneonta jumped out to an 11-5 lead before the Bengals mounted a comeback tying the set at 16 apiece.  Five unanswered points by Oneonta gave them its lead back at 21-16.  Oneonta got to set point at 24-20 before Buffalo scored four straight to tie the score at 24-24.  The two then battled point-for-point until the Bengals finally put it away with the final two points at 29-29.
 
Sophomore Caitlin Christie (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) led the Oneonta attack with 15 kills.  Fabrizio added 11 kills, three aces and 12 digs.  Sophomore Sophia Gerace (Pearl River/Pearl River) had a team high 21 assists followed by Rende who added 18 assists.
 
What's Next
The women will have a week to prepare for its next matches next weekend at Oswego and Cortland.
