Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer clipped in overtime at Hamilton

Nine-game unbeaten streak snapped

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team traveled to Hamilton College today and left with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Continentals.  The loss for the Red Dragons snapped its unbeaten streak at nine games falling to 8-1-1 overall.

"We just didn't create enough chances and we hardly tested their goalkeeper at all," said Head Coach Iain Byrne.

The Inside Story
After playing to a scoreless opening half, Oneonta got on the scoreboard first in the 56th minute.  For the third straight match, senior Tristan Battistoni (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) buried a penalty kick to give the Red Dragons the lead.

Still leading 1-0 entering the 80th minute, Hamilton turned up the pressure generating some chances.  In a span of 30 seconds, the Continentals were able to get off three shots, one was blocked, one was saved by Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and the third sailed high, but was touched by Oneonta, which earned them a corner kick.

Hamilton earned a pair of corner kicks, the second of which led to the game-tying goal in the 81st minute.  Thomas Kantrowitz came through with the goal off an assist from Luke Peplawski.

The match ended in a deadlock forcing the extra session.

In the overtime period, Hamilton carried the play getting three shots off, two of which were stopped by Hanna.  The game-winner for the Continentals came in the 96th minute by Charles Hawthorne assisted by Peplawski and Pandelis Margaronis.

Just the Stats
Hamilton outshot Oneonta 23-19 including a 13-6 advantage on frame.  Hanna finished the match with 11 saves while Ben Ziegler recorded five saves for Hamilton.
