Women's lacrosse soars past Norwich

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team defeated Norwich University 24-4 in non-conference action Monday afternoon in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Inside Story
Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) was in a giving mood on Monday as she led the Red Dragons with six points, scoring a goal while dishing out five assists. Deirdre Buckey tallied a team-high four goals as 14 different Red Dragons found the back of the on the day. Megan Foiles (Pearl River/Pearl River) finished with a pair of goals and three assists. Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey), Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial), Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack), Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley), Isabella Marx (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) and Tessa Hughes (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) had two goals apiece.

Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) set a new Oneonta record with 13 draw controls, breaking her previous record of 12 which was set during the 2019 season. Erin Fowler (East Meadow/East Meadow) led Oneonta with three caused turnovers while Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) collected three ground balls. Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) made three saves in net for Oneonta to earn the victory.

What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action tomorrow, March 10th when they play the University of Northwestern at 2:30pm in Hilton Head.
