Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball upended by Brockport

A Quick Look
Senior Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and junior Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) combined for 31 points tonight, but SUNY Oneonta fell to Brockport 81-61 in SUNYAC men's basketball action.  The loss for the Red Dragons was its first of the season in the conference while also snapping its seven-game win streak.

"Brockport is a very good team," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "They made us settle for some tough shots, and we missed some shots we usually make because their pressure got to us. The beauty of the SUNYAC is that we have to learn from tonight's game, and get ready for another tough conference opponent in Geneseo tomorrow."

The Inside Story
Oneonta (8-4, 4-1 SUNYAC) quickly closed its 10-point halftime deficit early in the second half with an 11-5 run led by nine points from Mackin.  With the score 43-39 in favor of Brockport (10-3, 5-1 SUNYAC) at the 16:57 mark, the Golden Eagles scored 21 unanswered points over the next six minutes to blow the game open.

The Red Dragons jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before Brockport countered with 11 straight points and never trailed again.  Another 14-8 spurt by the Golden Eagles pushed its lead to 12 points with just over seven minutes left in the opening half.

Oneonta quickly scored seven unanswered points to pull within five points.  Rivera, sophomore Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) and freshman Frankie Williams (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou) each scored a basket in the run.

A Mackin trey cut Oneonta's deficit to just three points at the 3:24 mark, but the Golden Eagles put together a closing 8-1 run to grab a 38-28 lead at halftime.

Just the Stats
Brockport held advantages in points off turnovers (24-12), second chance points (21-4), bench points (40-28), points in the paint (42-32) and fast break points (23-10).
