A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team went 2-2 on the day at the North/South Duals at Ursinus College Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons began the day with wins over Hunter College (33-18) and Trinity College (32-17) before falling to Ursinus College (25-20) and the University of Southern Maine (23-18)

The Inside Story
The Red Dragons fell behind 8-0 early on against Hunter before Ahken Chu (Patterson/Carmel), Tyler Brazinski (Johnson City/Johnson City), Nicholas Florin (Thompson Ridge/PineBush) and Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) earned consecutive pins over their opponents to give Oneonta a commanding 24-8 lead. After dropping the next two matches, Oneonta secured the victory when heavyweight Jonathan Solorzano (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) won 7-6 decision over Jacob Raboy to wrap up the match.
 
After taking the first two matches against Trinity by forfeit, Ahken Chu (Patterson/Carmel) increased the Red Dragons lead to 16-0 with a 14-1 major decision. Tyler Brazinski (Johnson City/Johnson City) upped the Oneonta lead to 19-0 with a 5-1 decision in the 149-pound bout. The Red Dragons would drop the 157-pound bout before Thomas Marrone (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) got Oneonta back on track with a 2-1 decision. Trinity climbed back into the match with back-to-back wins in the 174 and 184-pound bouts, cutting the Oneonta lead to 22-17. Oneonta freshman Jhordyn Innocent (Spring Valley/Ramapo) clinched the win for the Red Dragons with a pin in the 197-pound bout. Jonathan Solorzano (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) capped off the match with a major decision to make the final score 32-17.
 
Trailing 6-0 early on against Ursinus, Andrew DeSousa (Smithtown/Smithtown West) cut the Oneonta deficit in half with an 11-5 decision. Ahken Chu (Patterson/Carmel) then gave the Red Dragons the 8-6 lead with a technical fall in the 141-pound match. Oneonta extended their lead to 11-6 on a 9-4 decision by Tyler Brazinski (Johnson City/Johnson City). Unfortunately, Oneonta would drop their next four matches to fall behind Ursinus 25-11. Jhordyn Innocent (Spring Valley/Ramapo) earned his second pin of the day while Jonathan Solorzano (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) won a 6-4 decision in the final match, but Ursinus still held on for the 25-20 victory.  
 
Against Southern Maine, Tyler Scala put Oneonta in front 4-0 with a 16-7 major decision to start the match. After the Red Dragons dropped a decision in the 133-pound bout, Ahken Chu (Patterson/Carmel) capped off a four-win day with a 15-0 technical fall to give Oneonta a 9-3 lead.  Southern Maine won the next five matches to give themselves a commanding 23-9 lead. Jhordyn Innocent (Spring Valley/Ramapo) earned his third pin of the day while Jonathan Solorzano (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) captured a 6-2 decision to wrap up the match on a positive note for Oneonta.

The Red Dragons return to action on Saturday, January 18^th when they host the ECWC Championships at Dewar Arena beginning at 10:00am.
