Women’s tennis moves to 3-0 topping Farmingdale and St. Joseph's

Red Dragons stay undefeated

Farmingdale and Patchogue, NY - A trip to Long Island to play a doubleheader against SUNY Farmingdale and St. Joseph's College was successful as SUNY Oneonta won by scores of 5-4 and 9-0 respectively.

The morning match pitted the Red Dragons against SUNY Farmingdale and after the doubles Oneonta went ahead 2-1.  Taking number one doubles was junior Mya Lispscomb and freshman Maxi Karen 8-5 followed by the number two duo of sophomores Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) dominating their opponents 8-2.

A 2-1 advantage for Oneonta as they took courts one, two and four as Fraser playing in the top spot took a straight set victory 6-2, 6-0.  Lipscomb in the second flight also had little trouble cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.  Karen got the clincher for the Red Dragons as she also won in straight sets 7-5 and 6-0 playing in the fourth tier.

In the night cap the Red Dragons traveled to Patchogue, L.I. the home of St. Joseph's College.  There Oneonta began doubles play and quickly got the advantage winning in all flights.  Lipscomb and Karen at the first position had little trouble in an 8-2 win.  Fraser and Macdonald won their second doubles matchup cruising to an 8-3 victory.   Sophomores Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) and Giovanna Buccina (Syracuse/Westhill) clinched a 3-0 lead going into singles play on route to a convincing 8-2 conquest.

A 3-0 lead into singles was insurmountable for the St. Joseph squad as Oneonta won all six singles positions in straight sets.  Lipscomb, Fraser, Karen, Macdonald, Buccina were easy victors in the one-fifth positions respectively.  Freshman Emily Green secured the shutout for the Red Dragons winning in the sixth position dominating her opponent 6-2, 6-0 with steady baseline play.

The Red Dragons of Oneonta welcome SUNY Cortland to the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday, September 10th for the first SUNYAC matchup of the season.  The action begins at 3 PM.
