Oneonta, NY – The first home match of the season was a SUNYAC contest as Oneonta Women's Tennis hosted their adversary from Cortland. When the last ball was struck the Red Dragons were the victors sending their foes home to a 6-3 setback.
Doubles found the number one team of freshman
Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) and junior
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) easy winners pushing their opponents back 8-3 with dominant net play. The number two pair of sophomores
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) and
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) doubled up their challenger 8-4. The two doubles wins put Oneonta up 2-1 after the stanza.
Singles also saw Fraser at the number one spot not lose a game as she closed her opponent out 6-0, 6-0. Lipscomb in the second flight was equally impressive as she turned her opponent back 6-1, 6-0. Macdonald got the start in third position today and also was a straight set winner never really been threatened on the better side of a 6-3, 6-2 win. Sophomore
Giovanna Buccina (Syracuse/Westhill) got the clinching fifth victory on the day playing number five flight and was impressive taking home a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons take a trip on the other side of town as they play their city rival the
Hartwick Hawks beginning at 4 PM on Wednesday, September 11
th in the Wilbur Park, Oneonta Tennis Complex.
