Women's Tennis back on winning track with win against Plattsburgh 7-2

8-2 on the year and 3-1 in conference

Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team got back on the winning track today with a 7-2 win against SUNYAC opponent Plattsburgh.  The win moves the Red Dragons to 8-2 on the year and 3-1 in the SUNYAC.  The win today was all important for potential playoff seeding.

Doubles began when freshman Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) and junior Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas)  off to a rough start losing the first game but won eight out of the next 12 games on route to a secure an 8-5 triumph.  The number two tandem of sophomores Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) and Oliva Fraser were dominant in doubling up their opponents 8-4.  These two doubles win gave The Red Dragons a 2-1 advantage moving into singles play.

Oneonta now with a lead going into the singles saw wins at one through four and at number six positions.  In perhaps the highlight of the afternoon at number one singles Lipscomb dropped the first set 7-6 (7-5).  Lipscomb then tightened things up after the first set and went onto dominate in the second set with a score of 6-2.  The match deadlocked at 1-1 went to a super tiebreaker and Lipscomb jumped out to a 4-0 lead only to see her command evaporate falling down 6-5.  Lipscomb then took five out of the next six points to take home a very impressive win.  Other victors on the day were Fraser who was almost flawless with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.  Karen then registered a nice victory staying consistent with a 6-2, 6-1 win registered at the third spot.  In fourth flight Macdonald started off slowly and then got back to dominate her opponent 6-3, 6-0.  Rounding out the wins on the day was freshman Emily Greene (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West) who cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory closing out a 7-2 team match conquest.

The Oneonta Red Dragon Women only have 24 hours to rest as they quickly turnaround and play St. Lawrence University on the campus of St. Lawrence in Canton, NY on Sunday, September 29th beginning at 12 noon.
