Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team dropped to 7-2 on the season succumbing today to regionally ranked RPI. Last year the same two squads met and the Red Dragons surprised RPI with a 5-4 win but RPI enacted their revenge today shutting out Oneonta 9-0.
The doubles was lopsided on all three flights and Oneonta lost all doubles contest with only four-games to show.
With a 3-0 deficit to catch up, hope faded quickly as Oneonta lost quickly at the one, four, five and six positions. However, at the second flight junior
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) played a close first set with her RPI foe losing 7-5 in the first set. Lipscomb kept things interesting in the second set but dropped it only by one break losing 6-3. In the third flight sophomore
Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) is getting back to mid-season form after a three-week absence and was very impressive even though she lost in two competitive sets 6-1, 6-3.
The Red Dragons will try and get back in the winning column as they take on SUNY Plattsburgh in an all-important SUNYAC matchup on Saturday, September 28th beginning at 11:30 AM. The contest is being held at the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta. The Red Dragons are currently 2-1 in conference play and will need this win for playoff positioning.
