Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's tennis remains undefeated with win at Oswego

Red Dragons now 2-0 in the SUNYAC

Oswego, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team played its second SUNYAC match of the year and posted a convincing 8-1 win at Oswego moving them to 2-0 in conference and undefeated overall at 6-0.

Doubles was completely dominated by Oneonta with two shutouts on courts one and two.  Freshman Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) with junior Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) turned in a perfect set in the first flight 8-0.  That was followed on court two with another shutout as sophomores Rebecca MacDonald and Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) also earning the 8-0 lock out verse the Laker tandem.  The third doubles team of sophomores Giovanna Buccina (Syracuse/Westhill) and Amelia Wilson (Averill Park/Averill Park) doubled up their opponents earning a convincing 8-4 triumph.

3-0 ahead in dual match after the doubles stanza, Oneonta needed only two court victories in singles to clinch the SUNYAC matchup.  Lipscomb and Fraser playing in the numbers one and two positions followed up their doubles shutout victories and duplicated the result in singles both earning straight set victories with double bagels 6-0, 6-0.  The third position was held down by Karen who lost only two games on route to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.  The fourth singles spot also went in the Red Dragon column as Macdonald won in straight sets convincingly 6-3, 6-0.  In the fifth singles flight freshman Emily Greene (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills West) walked away a winner after going up 4-0 in the first set and her Oswego opponent had to retire due to injury.  Greene was the eighth win on the day for the Red Dragons helping Oneonta to prevail with a resounding 8-1 score.

SUNY Oneonta tries to move to 7-0 when they take the two hour drive down to Scranton, Pa to take on the University of Scranton women's tennis team on Thursday, September 19th beginning at 4 PM on their campus tennis courts.
