Women's lacrosse comes up short against Geneseo

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell to Geneseo 14-8 Friday evening in SUNYAC action. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 6-5 year and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.
 
The Inside Story
Geneseo (7-4, 3-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead with four unanswered goals within six minutes. Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) put the Red Dragons on the board at the 7:07 mark with her 11th goal of the season. After a Geneseo goal made it 5-1, Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) netted her 18th maker of the season on a free position shot to cut the deficit to three. Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) followed with her team leading 39th goal of the season in the 16th minute to make the score 5-3.

Geneseo would increase their lead to 6-3 on a Mallory Max goal before Oneonta rallied for four answered goals to take a 7-6 advantage. In matter of a minute and 29 seconds, Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central), Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) and Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) each scored on free position shots to tie the game at 6-6. Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) gave the Red Dragons their first lead of the game on a pass from Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) in the 24 minute.

After Geneseo knotted the game at 7-7 on a Jacqui Thorsen goal, Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) sent Oneonta into halftime with an 8-7 lead with her 10th goal of the season on feed from Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin). Unfortunately, the Knights held Oneonta scoreless in the second half, scoring seven unanswered goals to capture the 14-8 victory.
 
What's Next
The Red Dragons will look to rebound when they travel to Potsdam on Wednesday, April 10th for a 4pm tilt with the Bears.
