Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Kelsey Cohen tallies 200th point as women's lacrosse downs Potsdam

A Quick Look
SUNY Oneonta senior Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) tallied her 200th career point as women's lacrosse defeated SUNY Potsdam 20-8 in SUNYAC action Wednesday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field. Cohen is the seventh athlete in program history to reach 200 career points.

The Inside Story
Oneonta (7-5, 3-1 SUNYAC) had eight different athletes find the back of the net. The Red Dragons started the game with six unanswered goals including two by Cohen and Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central). After Potsdam got on the board at the 20:28 mark, Oneonta's Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial) found the back of the net on a pass from Erin Fowler (East Meadow/East Meadow).  Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) and Cohen increased the Red Dragons lead when they tickled the twine just 29 seconds apart to make the score 9-1.

Potsdam would rally for three unanswered goals including two with a man-advantage to cut their deficit to 9-4. Oneonta responded with three straight goals to wrap up the first half with a 12-4 lead. The final goal of the half was Cohen's 200th point of her career on a pass from Patalano for a man-up goal.

Potsdam was able to cut the Oneonta lead to 14-7 in the second half before the Red Dragons put the game out of reach by netting five unanswered goals to make the score 19-7.

Cohen finished the game with a team-high ten points, scoring seven goals and dishing out three assists. Calabrese chipped in with five goals and an assist while Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) and Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley) added two makers apiece.  Senior goalie Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) made five saves in the victory.

Oneonta outshot Potsdam 43-24 with a 33-13 advantage in shots on cage. The Red Dragons also captured 23-of-30 draw controls while earning 32-26 margin in ground balls.
