The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team was defeated by Cortland 21-11 on Tuesday afternoon in SUNYAC action.

The two teams wasted little time exchanging blows as the score was tied 1-1 less than a minute into regulation. Cortland (10-5, 7-1 SUNYAC) got on the board 22 seconds into the game before
Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) tied the game at the 51 second mark. After Cortland tallied back to back goals to take a 3-1 advantage, Oneonta (8-8, 4-4 SUNYAC) went on a five goal run to go in front 6-3.
Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley) got the run started with an unassisted goal 6:33 into the first half. Just 49 seconds later,
Lauren Bascelli (Williston Park/Herricks) fed
Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) for her 27
th goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. A

Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) capped off the run with back-to-back makers just 37 seconds apart.
After Cortland called a timeout to regroup, the hosts scored three straight goals to knot the game at 6-6. Oneonta took the lead back when
Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley) connected with
Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) for a man-advantage goal with 8:03 remaining in the first half. Cortland responded with back-to-back goals from Emily Goebel to go in front 8-7.
Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) tied the game for the last time with 2:13 on remaining in the stanza before Cortland went a three goal run to end the first half with an 11-8 lead.
Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) put Oneonta on the board 3:09 into the second half to make the score 11-9. Unfortunately, Cortland scored the next three goals to go in front 14-9.
Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) then tallied her game-high fifth goal of the contest to cut the deficit to 14-10. Cortland and Oneonta then exchanged goals 11 seconds apart to make the score 15-11, with Oneonta tally being scored by
Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin). That would be as close as Oneonta would get as Cortland closed out the game with six unanswered goals.
