Oneonta, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team played sound tennis but lost to a superior Hamilton College Squad 8-1. Hamilton College plays in the same conference with some of the best division III teams in women's tennis in the country. Hamilton College's poise and confidence was a little too much for the Oneonta women.
Doubles did see an impressive Red Dragons win in the third flight. Freshmen
Alexandra Dratch (Montgomery/Valley Central) and
Madeline Carswell (Albany/Bethlehem) were down 6-3 and fought back to get into a tiebreaker at 7-7. The pair jumped ahead 6-3 in the breaker and had three match points. The duo finally converted on their third match point and clinched an all-important win to keep the women close going into singles down only 1-2.
Singles had some notable results. Sophomore
Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) lost by two service breaks at the first flight 6-3, 6-3 in a very entertaining match. Senior
Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) played a tight second set but settled for a 6-1, 6-4 setback in the number two position. In a very tight match at the sixth flight freshman Rebecca MacDonald lost by a service break in the first set and went ahead 5-3 in the second set but could not get that elusive last game on route to a 6-3, 7-5 loss.
The Red Dragon Women now fall to a 15-8 record on the season and look to win their last match of the year. They host Baruch College on Thursday, April 25
th beginning at 3 PM at the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
