Oneonta, NY – Senior day for the SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team ended with a resounding 9-0 shutout over visiting Baruch College.
Doubles began with graduating senior
Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) playing her last match as a Red Dragon joining with sophomore
Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) in the first flight and the outcome was never in doubt as the pair cruised to an 8-0 victory. At the second flight freshman
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) partnered with sophomore
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) and had little trouble dismantling their opponents with dominant play on route an 8-1 rout. The same can be said for third flight freshmen
Madeline Carswell (Albany/Bethlehem) and
Alexandra Dratch (Montgomery/Valley Central) as they shutout their opponents 8-0.
A 3-0 in tow for the Red Dragon women was almost insurmountable for Baruch to make a dent in the Red Dragon arsenal. Eulau hiccupped a bit losing the first set 6-3. After the setback Eulau rebounded and cruised to the win with a second set score of 6-1. The super tiebreaker was Eulaus' at 10-6 and she took the first singles match. Brault at second seed finished her Oneonta career with an impressive straight set 6-1, 6-1 win. Lipscomb in the third position was also outstanding closing out the year with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Fourth position Fraser was also a straight set victor with a 6-1, 6-0 score. Carswell got the start in the fifth spot today and her freshman year was punctuated with a 6-3, 6-2 win. On the sixth position freshman
Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) got into the lineup today and went home with a dominant performance tallying a 6-1, 6-0 score clinching the shutout for the Red Dragons as they break for summer.
The season ended with a .667 winning percentage and a 16-8 record. The 2018/19 campaign goes down as the best in the SUNY Oneonta history of the program and a first-time appearance in the conference final earlier in the fall. The Red Dragon women will come back in August and get ready for another challenging 2019/20 season.
