Orlando, Fl - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team coming off its best fall season in program history headed to Florida to get ready for their non-championship spring season.

Waiting for them in a tune up match was the number one NAIA team in the country Georgia Gwinnett College. Georgia made quick work of the Red Dragons shutting them out 9-0. SUNY Oneonta came away with a great experience seeing some of the best female tennis talent in the country. The match was played at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.

The Red Dragons went on to play a doubleheader with the night cap at the USTA National Tennis Campus. There Oneonta began its NCAA spring competition against Division I St. Cloud State University of Minnesota. The Red Dragons played their top doubles team and went on to sweep St. Cloud on all courts. Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and sophomore
Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) opened with an 6-3 net dominated victory. The number two flighted pair of freshman
Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) and sophomore
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) had no trouble handing their opponents a clean 6-4 lose. The number three tiered pair reunited as freshmen
Madeline Carswell (Albany/Bethlehem) and
Alexandra Dratch (Montgomery/Valley Central) tallied a lopsided win scoring a 6-2 victory. The Red Dragons played a different format where the three doubles wins were worth only one point today. So, with a one-point lead singles play ensued.

The Red Dragons put an expanded lineup on the court. Senior
Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) was on the verge of gaining the lone Red Dragons single win as she was up 6-2, 5-1 but was forced to retire when she became injured unfortunately handing the single match at number three position to St. Cloud.

A new day and back to the USTA Tennis Complex where Oneonta took on Emerson College for the first dual match of the day. Oneonta handed Emerson a lopsided 8-1 win. Eulau and Brault back together as a pair came away with an 8-2 triumph. Lipscomb and Fraser were at their usual second position and also set their opponents back 8-1 playing dominant steady Red Dragon tennis. Carswell and Dratch completed the doubles sweep checking in with strong net performance 8-2.

Singles versus Emerson and a 3-0 team lead in tow saw Eulau, Brault, Lipscomb, Fraser and Carswell at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6th positions respectfully get wins and secure the 8-1 triumph for The Red Dragons first team spring win.

The last match of the day and the week was an under the lights matchup against a highly touted Otterbein College. The Red Dragons were shut out of the doubles and found themselves 3-0 down going into singles.

Fraser at number four turned in an impressive performance as she played her normal consistent style of play dominating her opponent 6-1, 6-3.  Dratch got the other singles win for Oneonta when she spit the first two sets 6-0, 2-6. A dramatic super tiebreaker got Dratch to the finish line with a big win turning in a 14-12 triumphant result.

The Red Dragons are now 15-5 on the year and return to Oneonta to rest up for its next dual match on Sunday, March 24th versus William Smith College beginning at 12 noon at William Smith.
