Women's lacrosse soars past Hartwick

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team defeated city rival Hartwick College 18-4 Wednesday afternoon at Red Dragon Field. The Red Dragons are now 4-1 on the year while the Hawks slide to 1-3.

The Inside Story
Oneonta (4-1) used ten different goal scorers to win their fourth in a row. Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) netted a game-high six points, scoring five goals and one assist. Maggee Sheridan (Warwick/Warwick Valley) dished out three assists and tallied one goal. Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) notched a hat-trick while Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central), Shannon Giddens (Franklin Square/H Frank Carey) had two goals apiece. Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) and Lauren Bascelli (Williston Park/Herricks) each had a goal and an assist while Christen Patalano (Mineola/Kellenberg Memorial) and Erin Fowler (East Meadow/East Meadow) tickled the twine once. Lily Avazis (Port Washington/Schreiber) rounded out the Red Dragons who found the back of the net with a goal and two assists.
 
Oneonta scored 16 unanswered goals to start the game, including two shorthanded makers in the first half. Jaclyn Marry (Long Beach/Long Beach) earned the win after making one save in the first half of action. Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) made two stops in the final 30 minutes.

Just the Stats
The Red Dragons outshot Hartwick 30-9 for the game with a 21-1 advantage in the first half.  Oneonta was 19-for-22 on clear attempts while winning 17 of 23 draw controls.
 
What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action on Saturday, March 16th when they travel to St. John Fisher at 3:00 p.m.
