For the second consecutive game, the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team posted a lopsided victory. Today, the Red Dragons rolled past Buffalo State at home 94-68.
Highlighting today's blowout was junior
Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) becoming the all-time leader in career three-pointers. Mackin made four in the first 10 minutes of the contest and finished with five for the game giving him 202 breaking the old mark of 200 set by Brian Hooks in 2011. Mackin finished today's game with 17 points, as one of four players in double figures.
Oneonta (12-10, 7-8 SUNYAC) trailed twice in the opening minute, 2-1 and 4-3, before taking hold of the contest. The Red Dragons scorched the net hitting nine of its first 12 shots including four of five from behind the arc. The Red Dragons ended up shooting 60 percent from the floor, which included 8-of-16 from long range.
Oneonta had another strong game rebounding the basketball holding a 55-42 advantage off the glass for the game. Sophomore
Joseph Bull (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) and junior
Ian Schultz (Clifton Park, NY/CBA) both collected eight boards while sophomores
Sean Nolan (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) and
Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) and senior AC Kirkwood all added seven rebounds each.
The Red Dragons scored 36 points in the paint and converted 15 Buffalo State (7-16, 5-12 SUNYAC) turnovers into 23 points. The reserves also turned in a sold performance overall combing for 30 points led by junior
Carson Jacobs' (Buchanan, NY/Hendrick Hudson) nine points.
Bull led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting including 3-of=4 from behind the arc. Rivera contributed 15 points while junior
Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) scored 10 points.
The Red Dragons carried a 58-34 lead into halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half achieving its largest lead at the final buzzer.
The Red Dragons will look to continue its winning ways on Tuesday when they travel to Oswego. The Red Dragons need a win to keep themselves in the mix for the final playoff spot. They are currently in seventh place and one game behind New Paltz who occupies the sixth spot.
