Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball continues to roll with upset of Oswego

Sophomore Joseph Bull records double-double to lead the way

As the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team continues its push towards the final conference playoff spot, today they went on the road and upset first place Oswego 70-55.  Oneonta is now 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the SUNYAC with two games remaining in the regular season including a game on Saturday versus Potsdam whom the Red Dragons are competing with for the final tournament seed.

"Tonight was a tough, physical game," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "It was a complete team effort.  Every guy on the roster was engaged and focused on their job."

Oneonta completely dominated the second half after the two squads battled to a 29-all tie through the first twenty minutes of action.  The Red Dragons shot nearly 50 percent in the second half and sophomore Joseph Bull (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) scored 18 of his game high 26 points to lead the way.  Bull played all 40 minutes and made 9-of-17 shots in the game and made 3-of-5 from behind the arc, all three coming in the second half.  Bull also added 12 rebounds including five on the offensive end.

After falling behind 35-30 early in the second half, the Red Dragons ran off 11 unanswered to grab control of the contest.  Bull scored five points during the run and junior Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) capped it with an offensive rebound and put back.

A layup by Tyler Pierre pulled Oswego (18-5, 13-3 SUNYAC) to within a bucket with just over 12 minutes to go in the game.  Oneonta then countered with a 14-4 burst over the next five minutes capped by a three-pointer from Bull to push the lead to 57-45.  Bull scored six of Oneonta's final seven points to secure victory.

Oneonta turned nine Laker turnovers into 15 points and scored 21 second-chance points off its 16 offensive rebounds.

Junior Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) and Deegan joined Bull in double figures today with 13 points and 10 points respectively.  Both Mackin and scored eight points in the second half.

Oneonta will finish its regular season at home with games against Plattsburgh and Potsdam on Friday and Saturday.  The Red Dragons will tip-off versus Plattsburgh Friday night at 7:30pm while facing Potsdam at 4pm on Saturday.
