Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball keeps pace with win against Fredonia

Ian Schultz records double-double

The visiting Fredonia Blue Devils put up a fight for about 10 minutes tonight before the host SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons seized momentum enroute to a lopsided 70-44 victory.  The win for Oneonta kept them within striking distance of the final playoff spot, as they improve to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in the SUNYAC.  The loss for the Blue Devils drops them to 2-21 overall and 1-15 in conference play.

Leading the Red Dragons tonight was junior Ian Schultz (Clifton Park, NY/CBA) who recorded a double-double by halftime enroute to 18 points and 16 rebounds.  Oneonta held a big advantage on the boards in the contest collecting 56 rebounds including 16 on the offensive end.

Sophomores Andres Rivera (Bronx, NY/Walton) and Sean Nolan (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) each reached double figures with 11 points apiece.  Rivera added eight boards as did junior Carson Jacobs (Buchanan, NY/Hendrick Hudson) who came off the bench to contribute seven points.  Nolan's 11 points led the reserves.

Trailing 15-12 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening half, Schultz ran off six straight points to put Oneonta out in front.  Fredonia countered with five unanswered before Schultz tied the score at 20 apiece at the 8:06 mark.

The Red Dragons broke the game open with a closing run of 18-6 to grab a 38-26 lead at the break.  Rivera, junior Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) and freshman Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) led the surge.

A 13-3 run over a nine-minute stretch in the second half by Oneonta put the game out of reach for the Blue Devils, as the Red Dragon lead grew to as many as 28 points with 30 seconds left in the contest.

Oneonta will be home again tomorrow when they face Buffalo State beginning at 4pm.
