The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team rallied to defeat Oswego 21-16 on Wednesday evening at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Red Dragons are now 10-7 on the year while the Lakers slide to 6-7.

After jumping out to a 6-0 lead with a forfeit at the 125 pound weight class, Andrew DeSousa (Smithtown/Smithtown West) increased the Oneonta lead to 9-0 with an 8-2 decision over Anthony Ianno. The Lakers capture the next five matches with four decisions and one major decision to take a 16-9 advantage.

Ryan Marszal (Unadilla/Unatego) got the Red Dragons back on track in the 184 pound weight class when he won a 5-2 decision over Jeff Lombardi to cut the Lakers lead to 16-12. Senior Peter Pjetri (Suffern/Suffern) pulled Oneonta within a point with an 8-6 win over Ricardo Dawkins in the 197 weight class. Senior James Bethel (Saugerties/Saugerties) captured the victory for the Red Dragons when he pinned Nicholas Schmitt in 1:42, making the final score 21-16.

The Red Dragons return to action on Sunday, February 10^th when they compete at the RIT Tiger Duals beginning at noon.
