Binghamton, NY - For the second straight year the SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis Team has clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming SUNYAC tournament.  For the second year in a row they did so by downing the SUNY Geneseo Knights by a score of 7-2.  As a result SUNY Geneseo finished in the third seed and coincidentily the Red Dragons will meet them again in next semifinals.

Doubles was close on two out of the three courts contested.  Number one doubles freshman Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) and junior Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) fell down 7-4 but rallied back to get the Knights tandem into a tiebreaker and went onto win 8-7 (7-3).  The number two duo of sophomores Rebecca Macdonald (Brooklyn/Leon M. Goldstein) and Olivia Fraser (Queensbury/Queensbury) also went down a break of serve and rallied back to take their match 8-6.  The third pair of sophomores Giovanna Buccina (Syracuse/Westhill) and Madeline Carswell (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) were never in any trouble and went onto a lopsided 8-2 triumph.

A 3-0 lead after the doubles stanza really did not feel comfortable because of the Knights depth of lineup.  However, the Red Dragons went on to win on court one as Lipscomb won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.  Carswell started today in the second spot and dropped the first before rallying back to win 3-6, 6-4 (10-4).  Fraser in the third flight played a noteworthy match of very competitive long rallies and power. Fraser lost the first set but rallied back to win the second but succumbed in the super tiebreaker 4-6, 7-5 (8-10).  In the fourth tier Karen went onto a straight set win 6-2, 6-1 and when she walked off the court it proved to be the clincher in the dual match.  Macdonald was positioned in the fifth tier and went onto a straight set win 6-0, 6-4.

So ends the regular season for the Red Dragons with an impressive record of 11-3 and conference record of 6-1. 
The semifinal matchup to earn the right to get into the SUNYAC Championships begins on Saturday, October 12th beginning at 4 PM v those same SUNY Geneseo Knights..  The contest takes place at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
