Volleyball comes up short against Oswego

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team fell to Oswego 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 15-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.

The Inside Story
The Red Dragons got off on the right foot by taking the first set 25-19. Trailing 10-6 early on, Oneonta went on a 5-0 run with Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) at the service to take an 11-10 advantage. Oswego would tie the match at 11 before Oneonta got three quick points with a Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) service ace, sandwiched by kills from Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) and Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) to make the score 14-11.  The Lakers would pull within a point on a couple different occasions, but a 4-0 run with Katelyn McDonough (Guilderland/Guilderland) at the service put the set out of reach for Oswego.

The Red Dragons dropped the second set 25-16 before claiming the third 25-20.  Oneonta had control of the match early, jumping out to a five- point lead on three separate occasions. Leading 10-5, Oswego mounted a comeback with a 5-1 run to pull within a point at 11-10.  Oneonta would increase their lead to 14-10 before the Lakers went on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set 15-14. With Oswego leading 18-16, the Red Dragons went on a 7-0 run with Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) at the service to go in front 23-18. The Lakers would end Oneonta's run with two straight points, but the Red Dragons won the set with an Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) kill and an attack error by the Lakers.

The Red Dragons excitement was short lived as the Lakers took the next two sets with scores of 25-17 and 15-8.
