Volleyball's streak snapped by Cortland

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team had their eleven-game winning streak snapped with a 3-0 loss to Cortland in SUNYAC action Friday evening. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 15-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.

The Inside Story
Cortland won the match with scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-14. The hosts had 11 services aces on the night with seven of them coming from Gabby Amelio.  In the first set, the two teams played through four ties early on before Cortland used a 10-0 run to put it our of reach.
In the second set, Oneonta controlled the match early, jumping out to a 6-3 advantage. After Cortland rallied to take a 10-8 lead, a service error by the hosts and a pair of Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) kills put Oneonta back in front 11-10.  Oneonta extended their lead to 18-13 before Cortland rallied for four unanswered points.  After a kill by Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) gave Oneonta a 20-17 lead, Cortland went on an 8-0 run to capture the second set.
In the third set, Cortland led from start to finish, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead.  After Oneonta was able to cut the deficit to 11-8, Cortland responded with a 7-0 run to take a commanding 18-8 lead.  Oneonta was able to pull the set to 22-14, but Cortland got the final three points of the set to wrap up the 3-0 victory.
