The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team fell to New Paltz 4-2 in SUNYAC action Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC.
The Inside Story
The Hawks got on the board 5:06 into the first quarter on a Jessica Ascencao goal. New Paltz had plenty of chances to extend their lead, but two defensive safes by
Emily Raymond (Deposit/Deposit) and one from
Sophia Little (Northport/Northport) kept the Red Dragons within striking distance.

Oneonta tied the game 3:16 into the second half on
Chloe Lynch's (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) third goal of the season. Oneonta's excitement was short lived as New Paltz took the lead back three minutes later when Jamie Wagner snuck a shot into the bottom left corner of the net. The Hawks extended their lead on a Jessica Ascencao goal off of a corner to make it 3-1. New Paltz made it 4-1with 5:05 remaining in the third quarter on a Carly Croteau goal.

Alise Anson (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) gave Oneonta some life when she opened the fourth quarter with her team-best eighth goal of the season. The Hawks will able to limit Oneonta to just one more shot on goal for the remainder of the game.
