A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team defeated Plattsburgh 3-0 in SUNYAC action Friday evening in front of a crowd of over 600 at Dewar Arena. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 18-6 overall and 5-3 in the SUNYAC.
The Inside Story
The Red Dragons took the first set 25-13. Oneonta got off to a fast start with an early 5-0 run with
Carsyn Rachuta (Holbrook/Sachem North) at the service. With Oneonta holding a 13-8 lead, Rachuta lead the Red Dragons on 10-0 run at the service. Junior
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) had four of the Oneonta kills on the run. After a service error by the Cardinals,
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) set up
Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) for the final kill of the set.
Oneonta captured the second set 25-16. Plattsburgh jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead before Oneonta used a 4-0 run with
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) at the service to go in front 5-3. Plattsburgh kept the set close, pulling within a point on three different occasions. Oneonta gave themselves some breathing room with a 5-0 run with
Juliana Valencia (Franklin Square/H. Frank Carey) at the service to take a 23-15 advantage.
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) and
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) closed on the second set with kills for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons wrapped up the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. After dropping the first point of the set, Oneonta went on an 8-0 run, with five of the points coming off Plattsburgh attack errors. After Plattsburgh used a timeout to regroup, they climbed back into the set with a 4-0 run, cutting their deficit to 8-5. Oneonta answered back with a 4-0 run of their own with
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) at the service.
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) had two of the four points for the Red Dragons. Plattsburgh made one last push to stay alive with another 4-0, cutting the Oneonta lead to 19-15.
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and
Kathryn Johnston (Altamont/Guilderland) tallied back to back kills for Oneonta, all but ending the match.
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) had three out of the last four kills for Oneonta, including the set winner.

Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) led Oneonta with a match high 15 kills. Losier was second on the team with a .342 hitting percentage. Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) chipped in with ten kills and three blocks while Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) had eight kills and a match best .438 hitting percentage. Carsyn Rachuta (Holbrook/Sachem North) had another brilliant night of serving with three aces for the Red Dragons. Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) dished out 35 assists while Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had a team high 14 digs.
